Mad about Plaid for Fall!

In the past, I haven’t been a huge fan of plaid.  Even though plaid shirts have been on trend the past few years,  I didn’t hop on board.  I am a girly girl and found the look a little too “lumberjack” for me. Ha!  I am also still trying to recover from wearing plaid skirts my entire private school education.  When Chadwicks of Boston reached out to me about promoting their “Copley” button up, I accepted the challenge!  I had fun taking this plaid button up and making it a little bit more feminine and structured.  I just want to emphasize that this top is a light weight cotton, NOT a flannel.  I am way too hot natured to even consider flannel!

IMG_1464.jpg

IMG_1723.jpg

For my first look, I paired this great plaid tunic with my favorite faux leather spanx,  I could literally wear these everyday! They are so comfy and flattering. And I added my favorite booties that are currently 40% off! YAY!  My Favorite accessory for fall/winter is a wool fedora.  It instantly pulls your outfit together and I don’t have to fix my hair!!!  I am a color gal, so I needed a pop of color in there!  I love red and black together so I added a fun red tote (only $54)

IMG_1722

For my second look, I wanted to dress it up a little.  I know plaid is considered casual, so I wanted to give it a feminine, more dressy vibe.  I paired it with a faux leather skirt and a nude strappy sandal, which is the universal shoe in my opinion!  I think this look is perfect for the office or a lunch date with the girls!

IMG_1720

Lastly, I paired it with my favorite high waisted jeans  and a fun pump!  This is a great look for a fall dinner out!  If you haven’t invested in a higher waisted jean yet, this is a great one and they are a great price!  So as you see, plaid can actually be a very versatile addition to your wardrobe!  Can you see yourself wearing outfit 1,2, or 3?

“Mom on the town” looks with JcPenney

The school year is officially under way!  JcPenney is a one stop shop for the entire family.  I was able to get the back to school necessities consisting of active wear and athletic shoes.  I am not kidding when I say that is ALL my kids want to wear!  I also found some great pieces for myself!  With the kids in school, I’ll be out and about more, running errands, and having coffee and lunch dates with my girlfriends.  In the summer, I spend half of my life in swimwear and athletic clothes doing various activities with my kids.  I am excited to get back into my routine and actually start getting dressed again!

I love a good jumpsuit! They are easy and comfortable and can easily transition to fall.    This adorable Red floral jumpsuit is currently on sale for $29 and I just love the fit and color!  It is from the Juniors department so I sized up to a medium.  I plan on pairing it with a Leather jacket for fall.   I chose a great nude sandal that is only $34 and quite comfortable for a heel.  To finish off the look I added an oyster colored Shoulder bag by Liz Claiborne. It is only $45!

I have always loved polk a dots!  Probably because Julia Roberts rocked them so well in Pretty Woman! They are timeless and chic and can be worn year round! This adorable wide leg romper is on sale for $34.  It runs generous (I am wearing an XS) and it is so comfortable.  This is a great piece to have in your closet!

My third look from JcPenney is this beautiful off the shoulder Maxi Dress.  Can you believe it is on sale for only $18?  I wore this to dinner with my husband over the weekend and got so many compliments.  I love that the color palette works for fall too!  At that price, this dress is a must.  Despite being inexpensive, the quality is great.  It would also look darling with a denim jacket or leather bomber!

I hope you enjoyed these “Mom on the town” looks from JCPenney!  Do you find yourself dressing up a bit more once the kiddos are in school?  I tend to, although as I write this post I am still in my gym clothes!  Thank you to JcPenney for sponsoring this post! Have a great week everyone!

My Sephora Top 10!

IMG_0969.jpg

IMG_0975.jpg

IMG_0971.jpg

It seems like there are new beauty products coming out all the time!  For that reason, I like to do seasonal round ups of my current favorites.  I struggle with skin sensitivity and hormonal acne ( which is under control at the moment) so I’m not able to experiment with skin care as much as I would like.   I do, however, love trying new makeup and hair products!  And here are some of my favorites!

Becca Highlighter– I have been using this in the “champagne pop” and absolutely love the effect.  I simply sweep a little at the top of my cheekbones and a thin line down my nose.  It gives a subtle glow and really brightens up my face.  I get compliments all the time on it. The color I’ve been using sells out a lot, but is currently in stock, so grab it quickly!

Smashbox photo finish primer–  My skin is oily in the hotter months and my pores seem to get larger ( it could be my imagination).  I love how this primer makes my foundation go on smoothly and it keeps my face matte looking all day.

Nars blush –  Finding the perfect pink blush is harder than you think!  The Nars blush in Orgasm (the name of this totally embarrasses me, lol) is the perfect blend of pink and works for all skin tones.  I know this might seem a little pricey for blush, but it lasts me a year!  So its a good investment!

Sephora brand brush set–  I love the brush sets from Sephora.  They are such a good price point and great quality.  They also have a great set for contouring as well!  And don’t forget to clean your brushes regularly with a good brush cleaner.  This is so important because bacteria gets on the brushes and can cause breakouts!

St Tropez tanning foam– as the world’s palest strawberry blonde, I have my PHD in sunless tanner! This one is THE BEST hands down!  The color is immediate so you can see if you missed a spot and it creates such a great bronze, not orange, color.   You have to apply it with a mit or it will stain your palms!  I highly recommend this one. This product sersiously saves my see through, pasty legs!

T3 Curling wand set– If you ever take the plunge and purchase a professional curling wand, this is the ONE! It comes with 3 different size barrels and the curls last for days! I haven’t found a wand that is even comparable to this one. It is an investment, but a worthwhile one!

Don’t despair, hair repair mask– once a week I try to use a hair conditioning mask. It doesn’t always happen, but that’s the goal!   I love this one and highly recommend it!

Brazilian Bum Bum Cream– This is my new favorite body cream!! It smells amazing and instantly moisturizes! It also smooths and tightens the skin.  It contains a “secret” ingredient, guarana.  It is paraben and sulfate free as well! This is a total winner

Brow wiz–  This is an ultra fine pencil perfect for filling in brows with hair like strokes!  It comes a ton of colors so you are sure to find the perfect match!

Urban Decay Eye shadow palette in “Naked Heat”– I am a huge fan of all of the urban decay palettes.  This one is different because it has some beautiful deep browns and burnt oranges that will be gorgeous for fall!

I hope you enjoyed my roundup!  I hope you will give some of these products a try! The beauty/cosmetic world can be overwhelming with all of the choices, but these are worth checking out!  Let me know your thoughts and please let me know if you have any questions!

Lady in Red

Red Free People dress (on sale),  Black booties,  Black lace braletteleopard clutch,       black midi dress,   red sock booties

“There is a shade of red for every woman” -Audrey Hepburn.  I totally agree with Audrey on this one! For years, I didn’t wear red because of my hair and skin color.  Last fall/winter I bought a few red pieces and I ended up loving them.  I even wore red lipstick a few times.  I know that is major, right?  It actually makes sense to have a few red pieces in your wardrobe because there are so many appropriate occasions to wear it.  Christmas, New Years, Valentines Day, Memorial Day, And Fourth of July are the perfect holidays to wear red.  And here in Arkansas,  Razorback country, wearing red is a way of life!  Here’s to hoping our football team isn’t on the struggle bus again this year!  I know many of my local ladies will be on the hunt for cute red pieces for football season, so I wanted to round up some of my favorites!  Almost all of these pieces are under $100, many of which are under $50!   Even if red isn’t your college color, it exhibits class, confidence, is timeless, and can be worn year round!  For these reasons, I firmly believe every lady needs a little red in her life.  If you don’t want to wear it in large doses, it makes an amazing accent color too! I love a pop of red against black, gray, or white!  Have I convinced you yet?  You need something red! 🙂

A Few of my Favorite (RED) Things

As always, thanks for reading!  Be bold and experiment with color.  Is there a color that you are hesitant to wear?  If so, what is it and why?

Styling your family for photos

Young_HighRes(2of32).JPG

What to wear???? That is hands down the biggest obstacle for planning your family photo session.  And let’s face it, they are SO much work, so it’s important that the pictures turn out and capture memories that will last a lifetime!   They are also quite an investment which is yet another reason I always get so stressed out.  Here are some tips for styling your family to get the best photos possible!

  1. Figure out what you are going to do with the pictures.  I knew that I wanted a gallery wall in our living room with our beach shots.  I chose our outfits to match our room.  My living room is gray, blue, and cream so that became our color palette.  If you are using the pictures for a Christmas card or another specific thing, pick your colors based on that.

2.    Pattern mixing- I am big on pattern mixing in photos.  This creates more interest and personality to your pictures.   Don’t be afraid to combine florals, stripes or any other small to medium prints. I personally don’t love huge prints in pictures.

3. Multiple textures-  This is more for fall/winter pictures, but I love layering textures for our family shots.  Fur, metallic, corduroy, the more textures the better in my opinion!

4. Avoid matchy match.  Let’s face it, that’s just boring.  White shirts and khakis just don’t say much about your family or their personalities

5. If you are stuck, pick one outfit you really love and choose the other ones around that color palette.  For instance, I really loved this maxi dress for beach pics, so I matched everyone to me!  That might sound selfish, I know!! 🙂

6. I like  “actions” shots, the kids playing, running, etc.  Ask your photographer for a variety of “lifestyle” shots so you get a variety of pictures to choose from.  With my family, action shots are about all we can get anyway!!!

7.  Keep it natural.  I want our photos to be a genuine representation of who we are.  So don’t fix your daughter’s hair super fancy if she never wears it that way and don’t wear totally different makeup than you normally would.  However, I do always wear lashes for pictures.  They really makes your eyes pop. I wear the natural length by KISS.

8.  Look at your photographers work ahead of time. Photographers have totally different editing styles and this can totally affect the colors of your pictures.  For instance, our photographer produces very warm photos which I love.

9.  Wear clothes that are comfortable and easy to move in.  Our photographer had our kids running around and we walked quite a bit, so keep that in mind if you are doing a lifestyle shoot.

10.  Our photographer, Lauren, gave me a wonderful piece of advice.  No matter what your kids are doing, keep smiling! Levi was terrible at our photo shoot. He missed his nap and was literally throwing tantrums on the beach.  She told the rest of us to always be ready and smiling, then she could capture the few seconds he actually cooperated!

The 30A, Rosemary Beach Travel Guide

Five years ago my family visited Seaside, FL for the first time.  We instantly fell in love with everything about the area: the food, the beaches, the people, the shops, and especially the quaint feel of the town.  It’s literally like a little piece of heaven nestled in the Florida panhandle.  The tourists are mostly youngish families with children who are polite and friendly.  There are no unruly college kids which is a God send! I’ve been begging the hubs for a beach house here for years because I would love to visit  regularly.  I’ll let you know how that goes! Ha!  Sit tight because this post is a long one! :

Where to stay

For the past 5 years we have stayed at Watercolor Inn and Resort.  We love everything about this resort!  It is literally like a cute little town/community with shops, restaurants, and stone streets.  Everyone parks their car for the week and rides a bike.  It’s like something out of a story book.  You can stay in a small condo or in a house that sleeps up to 20.  There are so many options as far as housing and they are all decorated in the cutest coastal decor!

My kids are still young, so we don’t spend full days at the beach yet.  We go for a couple of hours and hang out, then move on to something else. Watercolor offers a private beach plus about 5 pools.  So we do a lot of pool-hopping!  The staff is also very friendly and helpful!

Where to Eat

One of my favorite things about 30A is the amazing food!  The food is fresh and delicious with many healthy options!

Amavida Coffee Shop -This Coffee shop is a treat. Their bold, dreamy coffee has a distinct taste and every drink I’ve gotten is off the charts. Be sure and grab a bag to take home!

IMG_8442.jpg

The Candy Bar–  This is the cutest, most whimsical spot for sweet treats!  You name it, they have it: ice cream, snow cones, and a unique assortment of candy!  This adorable shop will put a sparkle in the eye of any child!

IMG_7450

Wine World– This is hands down our favorite restaurant in Seaside!  Despite the name, the food is absolutely outstanding.  I’ve had their pizza, salads, and fresh fish. It has all been amazing! My kids love it too, which is a miracle these days!  I am not a wine expert, but they have huge selection and happy hour between 4-6 everyday!  Every year we take a family picture in front of the fountain!  This is our family “spot”!

IMG_7738

The Food Trucks-  On the Seaside square, you can experience the gourmet food trucks!  Enjoy donuts, snow cones, BBQ, beach dogs or my personal favorite, “The Great Meltdown”.  The Turkey Avacado Melt is delish!!  Then you can hang around for music or a movie at the amphitheater.

IMG_8445 (1).JPG

Fish out of Water- For date night, Daniel and I went to this amazing restaurant.  It is newly renovated and just reopened.  The fish is out of this world and you can dine on the balcony overlooking the beach!   The dessert we got was the biggest thing I’ve ever seen!! I could only eat a couple of bites, but the hubs made a pretty good dent-ha!!

IMG_8446

Modica’s Market is also a must!  This gourmet grocery is perfect if you want to grab a delicious dinner to go! Everything in here is yummy!

Bud and Alley’s and The Red Bar are also some of our favorites!!  It’s a good thing we are so active on this trip because I REALLY love the food here!

Where to Shop

Willow Boutique– This is my personal fave!!! It’s located on the Seaside Square and they carry some of my favorite lines!   They have one of the best, most unique shoe selections I’ve seen! Their clothes have a beachy look, but still very classic and chic.  Clothes you can wear in “real life” too!

Little Red– My girls are obsessed with this store.  They carry a unique selection of baby clothes all the way up to size 14!  We found lot’s of cute things here and I was so excited to be buying something other than workout clothes!!!

IMG_8451.jpg

Cabana Seaside- This is a fun outdoor bizarre style shop full of beachy, bohemian clothing! They also have amazing accesories! Check this one out for sure!!

IMG_8452.jpg

My Favorite Swimsuits and Cover ups

Since I live in swimwear and cover ups when we are here, I spend a lot of time selecting my suits!  I want to be comfortable and stylish at the same time!  I gravitate to one pieces these days because I find them to be more functional when I ‘m chasing my kiddos!

IMG_8458.jpg

This Crochet suit by Becca Swim  is hands down my favorite suit right now!  It is so classy and comfortable, yet still on trend! I got SO many compliments on this suit!  I am wearing a size small for reference.  This leaf print kimono is only $18 and so cute!  I am never without a wide brimmed hat at the beach.  It protects your skin and makes you instantly look chic! The bigger the sunnies, the better! That’s just more protection!  Here are some more of my favorite looks from my beach trip, I will link them all at the end in the “Shop the post”

Dressing for the LPGA Tournament

Every year my hometown has the honor of hosting the LPGA tournament.  This is a BIG deal for our local economy and it’s held in the most gorgeous community, Pinnacle.  I’m not sure on the exact numbers, but I know thousands of people attend the tournament and the purse is 2 million dollars.  Needless to say, it’s a large scale production.  I know lot’s of women who attend the event, and there is always the question of “what do I wear”?  It is usually blazing hot during the tournament, so comfort and staying cool are  key.  I’ve teamed up with a local boutique, Vesta’s, to give some outfit inspiration on what to wear to the event.   Conveniently, they are located directly across from Pinnacle.  Before I share these looks, here are some general tips for dressing for this event.

  1. A hat is a must! Keeping the sun off of your head and face keeps you so much cooler!  Not to mention you instantly look chic and you are protecting yourself from sun damage.
  2. Lightweight fabrics like linen are cool and breathable and perfect to wear in the heat.
  3. Flowy clothing keeps you cooler.  Nothing is more miserable than tight clothing that sticks to you because you’re sweaty!
  4. Light colors reflect the heat, while darker colors absorb it. So the lighter the palette, the better.  Wearing a sleeve can actually keep you cooler because it reflects the sun away from your skin.
  5. No heels at the golf course, obviously!  Cute sneakers, a low wedge, or flats are definitely the way to go!
  6.  Think classy over trendy!
  7. Accessorize! Hats, big sunglasses, fun jewelry, and even a cross body are perfect for the occasion!
  8. Keep it casual!  Most of the attire on the course is pretty casual and comfy, but don’t be afraid to experiment with color and patterns!

IMG_7239.JPG

Processed with VSCO with c7 presetMy first look from Vesta’s is a chiffon tunic from one of my favorite lines Johnny Was.  I paired it with the most comfortable white linen pants by Heather. These pants are so cool and airy.  I love that they have a liner in them so they aren’t see through.  I chose a simple necklace by French Cande.  The print and detail on this tunic are absolutely stunning.

You just can’t go wrong with stripes. Especially thin, vertical ones.  This casual, dolman sleeve tunic by Fifteen Twenty is perfect for the greens or any outdoor summer event for that matter.  I also love it with denim shorts for the 4th of July!  These flax linen pants by Gold Hawk are such a wardrobe staple and can be styled countless ways.  I can totally see myself wearing these over a swimsuit at the beach too!  And of course a mini marmont Gucci bag works for any occasion!

IMG_7261.jpg

IMG_7263 (1).jpg

My final look from Vesta’s is an airy bohemian look which I absolutely adore!  I wore this dress by Saltwater Luxe open as a kimono and I just love the flowy, earthy vibe of this outfit.  I styled it with tie waist linen pants by Liverpool which are so versatile.

All of these looks are currently available at Vesta’s in Rogers, AR.  They are located at 5100 Pauline Whitaker Pkwy. You can contact them at 479-203-7666 and follow them on Instagram as @vestasrogers.

I hope this post gives you some outfit inspiration for the outdoor events on your calendar! Thanks so much for following along and be sure to check out Vesta’s and their unique selection of clothing and accessories. Emily and Kaitlyn are so helpful and sweet!

Enjoy your summer and all of the outdoor fun!

The Perfect 4th of July outfit!

The 4th of July is just a couple of weeks away.  I found some adorable outfit options and I want to share them.  I am not a “theme” dresser.  I don’t dress for holidays, but try to find pieces that work for that particular day and for everyday life as well.  The 4th of July is always SO hot, so I usually try to find a lightweight, cool dress.   I adore this Ruffle and lace sundress because it works for the 4th, but I am also taking it to the beach.  It is also a great date night dress!  I just adore the feminine details on it and the midi length is my favorite hem line right now.  It would also work beautifully for beach pictures! I paired it with my favorite espadrille.  These literally go with everything and are so comfortable! I decided to go with white tassel earrings, but they come in red too and that would be so cute for the holiday! My favorite bag for summer is a white tote.  This one by COACH is absolutely amazing!  It’s hard to find a reasonably priced luxury bag, but this one is really a great value for the price tag! And white bags aren’t just for summertime anymore!

The details on this dress are my favorite.  The fit is true to size. I’m wearing a small for reference! I highly recommend adding this dress to your summer wardrobe!

dress 2.jpg

If you would rather go the pants/shorts option, I have a great suggestion for that!  The paper bag waist trend is one of my favorite trends for spring/summer! I love that it emphasizes the smallest part of the waist line.  It is such a flattering silhouette on most body types.  This relaxed waist tie pant is so cute and comfy! They are also perfect for the office or brunch! I also love the shorts version.  I have been wearing this ruffle sleeved bodysuit  with everything this summer!  It’s only $35 and I bought the ice blue color as well!  I am long waisted so I always size up in bodysuits. I am wearing a Medium in this!

All about the “Miraclesuit”

Finding a high quality, mom-friendly, stylish suit is so difficult.   I prefer high quality fabric that “holds you in” and really lasts.  You don’t find this type of quality shopping in the Junior department.  That worked when I was 20, but now my swimsuit needs have changed.  I’ve had three babies and my pool trips consists of chasing my kiddos.  I need a durable fabric that will “stay put”!

When I first heard about the “Miraclesuit”, I was intrigued!  Their motto is “look 10lbs lighter in 10 seconds”.  Who doesn’t want that? The miraclesuit is different because it provides full body comfort control and allover shaping and slimming.  It contains 3 times the lycra of any other suit in the industry.  They are built to last!  There is a silhouette for every shape and size.  There really is a science to these suits.  The draping and shirring is in all the right places.  This is one of the most flattering, high quality suits I have ever owned and I know I will wear it for years to come!

The suits run small. I recommend going up two sizes.  I am typically a size 2/4 in clothes and am wearing a size 8 in this suit. This swimwear is definitely an investment, but it will last for years and the styles are timeless.  I always recommend purchasing one or two quality suits instead of various cheaper ones.

I highly recommend investing in a miraclesuit.  There really isn’t anything comparable that I have found!  I love the pattern and one shoulder detail on this suit.  I love that it is classic, yet trendy.  I may be a mom of 3, in my (late) thirties, but I still want to look chic!

Two hours before this photo shoot, I was so pale it was scary!  I applied my favorite sunless tanner, St. Tropez bronzing mousse, and had a nice glow in time for pictures.
I am still fair, but I love that this gives me some color! It’s so easy to apply and goes on evenly.  This is the best sunless tanner I have found!   So getting a tan in two hours, is yet another “miracle”!

Thank you to “Miraclesuit” for sponsoring this post.  I really do believe in swimsuit miracles now and every woman should own one of these amazing swimsuits. You can view the entire collection HERE  Thanks so much for reading!

When I stumbled upon these pants while grocery shopping, (yes I just said that) I fell in love with them.  I love unique pieces with movement and these are just that! And I am forever a fan of navy.  These Printed wrap pants caught my eye because I see so many ways to wear them.  I love them for a picnic, pool party, and as a cover up at the beach.  And with this price tag, you just can’t go wrong!  I paired it with an off the shoulder ruffle bodysuit.  The bodysuit comes in navy and red.  I also love the red for Memorial day or 4th of July! And it’s on sale super cheap!!    This is such an inexpensive look with a bohemian flare! I highly recommend adding this to your closet for summer!
